Legend has it that the hot spring was discovered by the traveling Zen monk Hakuun. During the Sengoku period, it served as a hidden hot spring for Lord Uesugi Kenshin's soldiers, who used it to heal their wounds and restore energy.

Known as the "Hot Spring for Eyes" since the Edo period, Kaikake Onsen's mysterious waters are said to have curative effects for eye ailments. In 1882, the hot spring water was even bottled and sold as eye drops under the name "Kaigansui."At the end of the trail, you'll have the option to relax and rejuvenate in these therapeutic waters (additional charge applies).
